Who cares for Ubi Soft anyway? They make drivel no matter which platform they shove it on. If anyone's released dozens of tat on the Wii and DS, its them.
Having said all that, isn't this article old news really?
"But we've got a story to tell, and it's important the player can engage with the characters and the world they inhabit before letting them loose..."
For me, this doesn't work so much in games. If I want to be immersed in a story, I'll read a book or watch a movie. Companies trying to make games like those mediums for me at least, are the ones who put me off games. I want to actually PLAY something. Having a good story is nice, sure. But there needs to be a balance between that and gameplay. I hate self absorbed devs that are too caught up in their own stories. Games will never give me the same emotional impact as a book or a movie does because simply, they're not real.
Trying to make games into movies doesn't work, just as movies based on games don't seem to ever work (though this can be attributed to lazy, short sighted attitude of movie producers). Both are entertainment sure, but both exist to offer people entertainment in their own way.
I like games to be fun and only Nintendo and a few select other devs still respect this belief.
That's funny because I have seen otherwise. Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World sold that little bit more than the 'Vesperia' port on the PS3. And that's with it being a crap game on the whole as well.
Sure, the PSP versions have marginally sold more than the DS versions, but the case in point is that this series has been waaaay over milked. In Nintendo's favour, it can be said development on DS and Wii is cheaper than PS3 and PSP. Most of the PSP games are ports anyway and so is the PS3 game.
At the end of the day, these games don't sell that big in global figures. Nor do their other franchises anymore. Namco really need to step it up a gear or 10 and make some truly decent games
Citing "present conditions that include the current severe business climate and declining profitability",
How about "we make crap games that no one wants" ? Namco became an irrelevant company a long time ago and have only gone on to make their games worse themselves. The Ridge Racer, Tekken and Soul Calibur franchises have all become more than plainlt average games and not even the 'Tales' games are 'that' good
Look at Capcom. They're in a better position since they do make good games, even though I thought that Residen Evil 5 was below par. Still, it sold well for Capcom and that's what they'll care about
Chris Dahlen meets the director of interactive fiction documentary Get Lamp and remembers how rich a world that only costs the time it takes to write it can be.

Not as annoying as that Kotick guy. At least EA are attempting to make good games, not like Craptivision
