Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said that the company has cut its expectations of its Wii MotionPlus action game, Red Steel 2.
Originally estimated to sell around one million units, Ubisoft has now slashed its own sales projections of the Wii exclusive, which is currently due to be released this March.
Speaking during a financial conference call last week (via Total Video Games), Guillemot explained, “For Avatar we said 2.5 million units and our expectations were more in the 3.5-4 million [region]. On Red Steel we decided, in our expectations, to divide the quantity by two and previously we had around a million."
Ubisoft downsizing its expectations of a Wii title is the latest publisher reaction to the Wii market. Recently Capcom France exec Antoine Seux said that early Wii sales of Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are below what was expected from the latest title in the series.
Last week Ubisoft said that sales targets for its third-quarter and full-year 2009-10 have been revised downwards to €495 million and around €860 million respectively, from the previously announced figures of €540 million and €1,040 million. The firm also delayed several key titles, including Splinter Cell: Conviction.
The comments posted here so far are spot on, so if the average edge reader has more common sense than the people at Capcom, Sega and now Ubisoft together, then I guess a wonderful market will remain untapped. I demand one quality title from a third party, I want Resi Evil 6, Final Fantasy 15 and Metal Gear Solid 5 on my Wii. Not some stupid tie-ins and cash-ins and what the f**k. And even the logic is there as the Wii market is more or less PS3 & Xbox360 combined. But before I complain too much, thanks to Nintendo for giving us the Wii ( though it may gather some dust right now...).
'Not some stupid tie-ins and cash-ins and... [just dance!]'

Or maybe it's a reaction to publishing a shitty sequel that nobody really wants? Getting pretty bored with the ongoing Wii-bashing narrative here at Edge vis-à-vis third parties who blame Nintendo for their own failures. Lazy 'journalism.'
Well, let's just talk about quality... The first Red Steel and The Dark Side Chronicles aren't exactly the best games of their genres for this platform
