Atari has confirmed that the North American version of Ghostbusters for Xbox 360, which is due to hit stores on June 16, will not be region locked.

With the Terminal Reality game set to be a timed exclusive PlayStation release in Europe, debuting on PS3 and PS2 on June 19, the news could see many gamers in the region hoping to get their hands on the title importing in from the US, reports Destructoid.

European Wii owners will have to wait until the title sees its official release in the territory, however, as the game is region locked outside of Europe. PSP, Wii, DS and PC versions of the game are expected to release in Europe later this year.

This whole thing was a botch from the start. Firstly, Sony hasn't marketed well or shifted amazing numbers of its own exclusives and secondly; GHOSTBUSTERS?!!! Yeah, that's a triple A killer system shifting title. Even if it was the greatest licensed game of all time it's going to struggle to sell, especially since not only are we in an economic downturn but Infamous is just out and Uncharted 2 and Prototype aren't far off along with the expense that the summer brings, holidays etc etc.

Factor in the fact that you can now pick this up at Play Asia for about the same, on Xbox (the pound gets stronger against the dollar every day) with achievements and Sony have basically slimed themselves not just in the foot but all over.

Ghostbusters is one of those games that will get 60 to 70% and will only sell marginally in about a month to 6 weeks when Play and Amazon slash it's price in half. Not only will Sony suffer but the games sales as a whole will to because when it does finally get released on the other consoles we will have all moved on to bigger and better things.

If an alien came to Earth right now and you told it that once, Sony ruled the gaming world in terms of advertising, sales and eveything else it would look at you and think you were mad.
