Nintendo launched the DSi LL this weekend in Japan, generating queues for the product at a number of stores.

Around 100 consumers were waiting in line at Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara when the store opened on Saturday, while the queue was over 60 strong at Bic Camera in Tokyo's Ikebukuro, according to Famitsu (via Kotaku).

Announced in late October, the DSi LL is a DSi sporting larger 4.2 inch screens. Designed to meet requests from older consumers wanting larger screens and a bigger touch pen, the new model offers no improvement in terms of resolution.

The DSi LL measures 161 x 91.4 x 21.1mm and weights 314g. In comparison, the DSi measures 137 x 74.9 x 18.9mm and weighs 214g.

The new model comes bundled with two touch pens, one shorter (96mm) and one longer (129.3mm), and with three DSiWare titles pre-installed – two brain training games and a dictionary.

Offering greater battery life than the DSi, the DSi LL is available in three colours - Dark Brown, Wine Red and Natural White - for 20,000 yen ($225/£135).

The DSi LL will be called the DSi XL in Europe and the US. It will release in both territories during the first quarter of 2010. "The retail price of the Nintendo DSi XL is expected to be higher than that of the Nintendo DSi,” Nintendo UK has said.
