Assassin’s Creed 2’s creative director Patrice Désilets has revealed that the first game in the franchise has “sold some eight million copies.”
The title, which released for Xbox 360 and PS3 in November 2007 and for PC in 2008, had sold six million units as of April last year, Ubisoft said previously.
“We recalculated, my producer and I, that roughly between 30-35 million people played Assassin's Creed... if you count all the rentals, the second-hands,” Désilets told Joystiq.
Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed 2 is due to launch later this year. A PSP Assassin’s Creed game is also currently in development.
The second one I hope is better than the first. I liked the first, but inane little missions spoilt it for me. I mean, time trial for flags????....I stopped playing it at that point - and that was early. Plus the dozen or so soldiers attacking you and standing to die one at a time was silly.
There's game play for the new one on Youtube and it looks GOOD with some quirky tricks. Hope it isn't a let down cause I'll spend the cash on that one too.
I really look forward to part 2. If they can take the best of part 1 and meld into a new game, this could be a phenomenal title.
Really, considering the potential of the first one, they just don't have any excuse for AC2 not being the best game this generation.
I bough the game for pc and was hard to play with key borad and mouse. I used a pc gaming pad and was over whemled by all the buttons. lol
my friend is borrowing the game from me right now.
Shame, it's an amazingly fun game. Some missions get repetitive, but it is a lot of fun leaping across rooftops in a chace or running away.
It's exhilerating, something that I think Mirrors Edge didn't capture.
I think this is good, because the first one had room for improvement, but lots of potential. Would have been shame, if they couldn't have afforded to make a sequel and fix some of the problems.
I really liked the original, even with all its shortcomings.
I do wonder how number two will sell, since most people I know were dissapointed in the game, not many said they hated it but almost all had gripes overall.
Well, one of the things that certainly did not disappoint were the graphics as, with this game, I truly felt like playing something that developers weren't capable of doing before. Essentially the only thing that felt wrong was the amount of repetition. As long as they make sure the missions are varied and the story has enough twists to keep it compelling, I think this game has the potential to be huge.
