It’s the London Games Festival next week, the fourth annual celebration of videogames in the UK capital.
Comprising a mixture of both public and industry events, it promises to offer something for everyone, and, naturally, we’ll be there. Here’s our pick of what’s going on:
MCM Expo
Saturday October 24 and Sunday 25
Excel Centre
With a reveal of Valve’s Left 4 Dead 2 and the chance to play as Frank West in Capcom’s Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom Ultimate All-Stars and Ubisoft developers talking about creating Avatar, there’s a lot for gamers to see at this anime, comics, film and videogame expo.
London Games Conference
Tuesday October 27
BAFTA, Piccadilly
Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Shadow Minister for Culture Ed Vaizey and Edge editor-in-chief Tony Mott will explore the deep implications of digital distribution on the game industry.
Best Of British
Wednesday October 28
King’s Place, York Way
Business network GameHorizon has gathered British game developers for a day conference discussing the challenges that face them, including Gareth Edmonson, studio manager at Ubisoft’s Reflections, MP Ed Vaizey (again), Revolution Software’s Charles Cecil, MD of indie Introversion Software Mark Morris and Simon Seefeldt, business development head at Runescape maker Jagex.
Playful
Friday October 30
Conway Hall, Red Lion Square
A cross-disciplinary mash of people interested in games and play, Playful has on its speakers roster a great cross section of UK geek doers and thinkers, including Media Molecule illustrator Rex Crowle and art director Kareem Ettouney, and Rolando maker Handcircus’ Simon Oliver. Promises to be intoxicatingly thought provoking.
Golden Joysticks
Friday October 30
With 1.2 million votes on the clock, the Golden Joysticks awards is now very much a public affair. You'll be able to watch the announcements of this year's winners, including the Ultimate Game of the Year gong, through live streaming video feed at CVG.
Eurogamer Expo
Friday October 30 and Saturday 31
Old Billingsgate
The fast-growing consumer videogame show again hits London with a large number of playable titles on the show floor, from New Super Mario Bros Wii to Dante’s Inferno. Alongside the bright lights will be a career fair, at which companies from Sega to Starbreeze will be looking for talent, and the Indie Games Arcade, where Hello Games will be showing Joe Danger among many more.
