Every Thursday, the Edge Games Index, produced in association with Brandwatch, rates games according to the volume of positive and negative buzz they're inspiring on the web.
Each chart allows you to rank the list by the overall quantity of buzz about each title, by the quantity of positive or negative buzz, and by the percentage of positive or negative buzz. To explain the numbers you’ll see on the charts, the number alongside the volume of responses represents the absolute number of mentions the game in question has had, while the ‘last week’ column represents a game’s position in relation to the others on the chart seven days ago.
The data is compiled by brand intelligence specialist Brandwatch. To find out how its system works, see our explanation.
UK Chart October 19
This week, Uncharted 2's buzz dwarfs that for all the other games in the chart, with well over double the mentions of second place Fallout 3, and far more that last week's leaders, too.
With only 105 mentions, Professor Layton: Pandora's Box is the least talked about by a long, long way, but it's following the same trend it set last week. FIFA 10, meanwhile, which had a clear 1000-strong mentions lead last week with 4278, is now in fourth place with 3730.
Fallout 3, only just trailing Brutal Legend's second place in volume of mentions, is proving to generate the most positive feedback at the moment. It's due to the newly released Game Of The Year Edition, as well as the appearance of the complete roster of DLC on PlayStation Network.
Brutal Legend and Need For Speed: Shift are attracting the most negative reaction, with it representing 12 per cent of their totals, but not by a large degree over the other entries on the chart. Wii Sports Resort, with only 4 per cent of its feedback, is the least grumbled about.
Uncharted 2 is this week's hottest game by a long chalk, however. With low negative and high positive reaction, Naughty Dog has deservingly captured the hearts and minds of internet chatter.
We're afraid today's second chart, which we'd planned to run on MMORPGs, ran into a last-minute technical hitch, so we've regretfully had to push it back until next week. Sorry about that, stat-fans.
